Alan Wojcik Reviews March WSU Event DVD Releases May. 2nd, 2009 @ 08:01 pm
On March 7, 2009 Women Superstars Uncensored inducted three special ladies into their new Hall of Fame and also held their 2nd Anniversary event during one special day. Let’s first talk about the HOF DVD where Malia Hosaka was inducted by Alere Little Feather, “First Lady of Wrestling” Missy Hyatt inducted was by Missy Sampson and “Sensational” Sherri Martel (accepted by her sister Kathy Fitzpatrick) was inducted by “Prime Time” Amy Lee. In addition to the ceremony there are four matches from WSU webisodes with features on previous WSU events with interviews regarding the evening DVD taping:

WSU/NWS 2/7/09 in Edison. NJ

WSU Tag Team champions Beatdown Betties (Annie Social & Roxie Cotton) vs. Miss April & Brooke Carter

Jana vs. Trixxie Lynn

WSU champion Angel Orsini vs. Kylie Pierce

WSU/NWS 2/21/09 in Bloomfield. NJ

WSU Champion Angel Orsini vs. Miss April (w/Gorgeous George)

While the matches were great the true gift of this DVD is the ceremony itself which is the most heartwarming event I have ever seen and that includes all of the WWE HOF ceremonies combined. Shame its so short because I would have liked to have heard stories from the ladies who interacted with these legends on past shows. All of the WSU superstars were at ringside as Sean Hanson was the master of ceremonies. The WWE will most likely never induct Ms. Hosaka or Hyatt so this is a fitting tribute to the women who broke down barriers in the 70’s & 80’s.

Here’s the lineup for the 2nd Anniversary DVD:

Bull Rope Match w/Special Referee Ms. Alicia
WSU champion Angel Orsini vs. Mercedes Martinez with her hair on the line

Former Soul Sistas Collide!!!
Jana vs. Latasha

Team Wigwam vs. Kylie Pierce & Lea Morrison

Last Woman Standing
Awesome Kong vs. “Prime Time” Amy Lee

WSU Tag Team championship
Miss April & Brooke Carter vs. Beatdown Betties (Roxxie Cotton & Rick Cataldo)

Malia Hosaka vs. Rain

Trixxie Lynn vs. Lady Divine

Cindy Rogers vs. Jetta

The commentary duties are handled by Sean Hanson and “the First Lady of Wrestling” Missy Hyatt. In front of the main feature is a note about the lack of ringside camera due to some technical reasons and that fact nearly destroys buying the DVD. You lose nearly the entire Kong/Lee match and it’s a shame but the price you pay when filming a live show. The Tag Team title match is good only for the fun guessing would Annie Social attack Cataldo. I hope Carter/April are still training because they looked real nervous in the ring. Orsini/Martinez steal the show like the main events they have worked before. They’re not done as they will meet up in the coming weeks in a 60 minute IronWoman match. Be sure to check out www.WSUWrestling.com and www.doivideo.com for event and DVD sales information. Please check out http://alanwojcik.com for my interviews with Ms. Orsini & Ms. Martinez.

Review of History of WWE 1987 DVD Apr. 22nd, 2009 @ 09:39 am
He's Cool, he's cocky, he's bad and he's back with the people who run KayfabeCommentaries. The "greatest intercontinential heavyweight champion of all time" the Honky Tonk Man was the companies first subject for their You Shoot DVD series. So its fitting he is the initial guest on a joint project with www.thehistoryofwwe.com for Timeline: the History of WWE. This appears to be a set up for a series and they begin with 1987.

Like always Sean Oliver is along for the trip and this is an intresting concept, take a former WWF/WWE superstar and run the calendar year with them. 1987 is a great starting point since it saw the birth of the Survivor Series PPV and the record breaking WrestleMania 3. 1987 was also the year Honky got a huge push in the WWF along with some good and horrible characters. There is an on-screen guide before each segment giving the bullet points of that month before Honky muses on the subject. Like his YouShoot DVD, Honky holds nothing back and I love that fact. As I mentioned this covers the entire year beginning with the January shows that saw the Hogan/Andre feud begin and Roddy Piper announce a retirement. From there Honky and Sean cover all the key moments of the year: WrestleMania 3, debuts of Outback Jack, Ron Bass, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan (and his arrest with the Iron Sheik), "the Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase & Tom Magee; trouble with Dynamite Kid, Jim Neidhart & David Schultz, the returns of Ken Petera and "Superstar" Billy Graham plus stories from Saturday Night's Main Event tapings, Superstars tapings, the King of the Ring & initial Royal Rumble (long before they became PPV's).

Despite what people think of him, Honky Tonk Man is a eloquent person and was the perfect choice for this initial DVD. I consider myself a wrestling junkie and this DVD brought back things I long forgot. Honky takes you through his vignettes at Graceland, the backstage stories & overall atmosphere when new people came into the promotion or the NWA ran in the same town/same night, his feuds with Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage and what is was like to see royalty checks for action figures or lack of for ice cream bars. Awesome debut for the series and I can't wait to see who they choose next. Buy this DVD now at www.KayfabeCommentaries.com to buy plus also submit YouShoot questions for Sabu and be sure to visit www.thehistoryofwwe.com

Alan Wojcik Review Ringside With Vader DVD Apr. 7th, 2009 @ 11:23 am
It’s time, it’s Leon White time. Bet you’re asking yourself who the hell is Leon White? Well wrestling fans around the world know him by another name; Big Van Vader, the former world heavyweight champion in several promotions in America and overseas. He has been in some high profile matches over that career, so the people at KayfabeCommentaries.com sat him down to talk about them with Sean Oliver for their debut RINGSIDE DVD. The concept sounds great. Take a pro wrestler, sit him down, make him watch the matches and talk about them. The following are the matches White & Oliver talk about over the one hundred minute program:

Leon "Baby Bull" White vs. Bruiser Brody (May 13, 1986 St .Cloud, MN, AWA)

Big Van Vader vs. Antonio Inoki (December 27, 1987, Tokyo, debut of the Vader character in NJPW)

Big Van Vader vs. Shinya Hashimoto (April 24, 1989, Tokyo, Vader wins IWPG championship tournament)

Big Van Vader vs. Stan Hansen (February 19, 1990 Tokyo, AJPW/NJPW Superfight)

Big Van Vader vs. Sting (July 12, 1992, Great American Bash in Albany, GA; Vader wins the WCW World title)

Big Van Vader vs. Thurman & McCoy (November 1992, Vader "breaks" Thurman’s back during a match taped for WCW TV)

Big Van Vader vs. Cactus Jack (March 16, 1994 Munich, Germany; Mick Foley/Cactus’ ear comes off in the ring on WCW tour)

Super Vader vs. Nobuhiko Takada (August 18, 1994, Tokyo, Vader wins UWFi "Best of World" Tournament)

Vader vs. Shawn Michaels (August 18, 1996, WWF Summerslam, Cleveland, OH)

Unlike some reviewers I will not break this down segment by segment. The good news is White is a great interview and Oliver helps him keep on track. White has some great stories of working the late Brody, the birth of Big Van Vader and who almost became the character, thoughts on having his nose broken by Hansen before the match started then suffering an interesting eye injury (glad there’s no footage of that), being managed by the legendary Harley Race, brawling with Paul Orndorff, watching Foley’s ear come off in Germany, the differences between the AWA, NJPW, WCW and WWE plus who was the best wrestlers he faced over his career. The bad news is this since the fed up north owns nearly all the video rights the format only allows for the interviews as opposed to the two men doing alternate commentary on the matches. That makes me give a mixed choice on the review grading. I like the interview with White but with no matches to see what’s the point of the format. You be the judge when you purchase the DVD from www.KayfabeCommentaries.com where you can send in questions for the next YouShoot interview with New Jack and see a sneak of the Timeline Series on the History of the WWE.

Sean Davis of Heartbreak Enterprises has a Major Announcement

Jubilant after Rhett Titus’ victory over Chris Jones in Crystal River to become the FIP Florida Heritage Champion, Sean Davis of Heartbreak Enterprises told us he was only getting warmed up. "Things are finally starting to take shape here in FIP the way they should be. I’ve got the Undisputed FIP World Heavyweight Champion Davey Richards, the Florida Heritage Champion "Addicted to Love" Rhett Titus, and my Perfect 10, Baby Doll. There’s only 1 thing missing, and that’s the FIP Tag Team Titles. I thought it was going to be my Heartbreak Assassins to take the gold home for us, but due to the unfortunate injury to Casanova Chris Escobar, I have been forced to go out and find a new team to complete the Trifecta. Well, I have found that team and on May 2nd the entire world will see what I have in store for the Tag Team Titles."

Three title matches already signed for Unfinished Business May 2nd

Tyler Black will be back in action in Crystal River on Saturday May 2nd, and he has his sights set on one man and one man only, Davey Richards. "Davey, you want to parade around here wearing my belt like you’ve earned the right to call yourself champ, be my guest. You’ve got 1 more month to enjoy life without Tyler Black around, so make it count, because no one has more unfinished business around here than you and I. May 2nd, I take back what’s mine.

Erick Stevens and Roderick Strong are on quite a roll, and they look to continue that streak against The British Lions, Chris Gray and Tommy Taylor. "Chris and Tommy are very good," said Strong "and we are going to have our work cut out for us, but we aren’t giving these belts up without a fight. We are the FIP tag team Champs and it’s going to stay that way for a long time."

Chris Jones was clearly upset after losing the Florida Heritage Title to Rhett Titus, especially considering the chicanery involving So Cal Val, but he hasn’t let that loss get the best of him. He has invoked his rematch clause, and gets another shot at Rhett Titus, only this time in the role of challenger. Jones said, "Rhett, no excuses, you beat me 1-2-3, but on May 2nd I will be back, and I will be more prepared, more determined, and more than you can handle. I want my belt back."

New Interview with Jimmy Rave Mar. 29th, 2009 @ 10:00 am
Alan Wojcik: It’s been a while since we last did an interview so let’s backtrack a bit. How did you initially come to work for Ring of Honor in 2003 and what were your impressions of the northeastern fans that seem to be over critical about everything?

Jimmy Rave: I rode to the Night of the Butcher Dec of 02 and wrestled a young fellow named AJ Styles on a pre show match. 15 hour drive, 3 min match and the rest is history. I thought it was a risk going up there. All I knew was being a southern babyface. Well, Philly doesn't like us all that much. Luckily, I stuck around CZW and ROH for awhile.

Alan Wojcik: You had some high profile feuds with AJ Styles and CM Punk. What are you
memories of those matches and of those two men?

Jimmy Rave: Punk was the person who pushed me more than anyone. He forced me to break out of the shell I was in. I held back for a long time and he pretty much beat me until I was ready to fight for a spot. I found out later he was a big part of me getting into ROH. He is like a brother to me. We may not talk all the time but if I need to call him he's there and he can do the same for me. Our matches are my favorites. AJ and I came from the same promotion, NWA-Wildside, and really never wrestled there. When he left WCW, he and David Young took me under their wing and would take me on the road with them. When it came time for us to throw down... well I remember thinking, "this is the same guy I used to play video games with, why the F*** is he hitting me so hard." Then I realized he was mad I made the Rave Clash look like a million bucks! If we were at Wildside, CZW, IWA, ROH or TNA he always made me work! He would give the shirt off his back for you if you needed it that’s the kinda guy AJ is! (Unless, it's his favorite shirt then he may let you borrow it but he'll want it back.)

Alan Wojcik: Was working for ROH under Gabe Sapolsky’s booking how you were booked into the Florida based Full Impact Pro that ROH became a sister promotion to?

Jimmy Rave: Yeah, Gabe knew I was close to Florida living in Georgia so he asked me to come down. I brought Sal Rinauro, Seth Delay, Rainman and Jay Fury with me. We had fun times on those long trips. Rainman is now Cory in the Dark City Fight Club (Chavis’ partner is Jon Davis) and boy are they blowing up! Sal is the most under used guy in the wrestling business. Seth smells like pond water. I haven't heard from Jay in a long time. But to answer your question.. .Yes.

Alan Wojcik: During this time you were also working for the ultra-violent Combat Zone Wrestling but you were their Iron Man champion. Did you ever want to mix it up with guys like Necro Butcher and the Wife Beater?

Jimmy Rave: Necro and I weren't there at the same time, I don't think. I think Wife Beater was gone then too. I wrestled Nick Gage, he was awesome. Nice guy! But other than him not really anyone. I miss CZW.

Alan Wojcik: On several occasions you have worked for the Vince Russo created Ring of Glory. For fans that have never seen their events please describe one for them.

Jimmy Rave: Vince, AJ and I were booked for Cyberspace Wrestling in NJ. He told me about becoming a man of God and I watched him study the bible the whole trip. He watched AJ and I wrestle and said to me, "if I still booked TNA you would have a job." Well, he left TNA that week. When he was looking for a venue to run he called my wife to be his real estate agent. Well, within a few days he emailed me and told me his plans. All the angles were based off of scripture. I wrestled Abyss a la David vs. Goliath once and then on the DVD taping I won his version of the world title called the Spirit of the Sword. Paul Bearer (basically playing the devil) tried to bring me to his side and the babyface (playing a working man, Jesus) gave me a choice. This may sound all screwy but that night was one of my favorite shows. If you get to check out the Ring of Glory stuff do so. It would have been a great thing for a Christian channel to pick up on. Plus, Vince was going to have unknown Christian bands play joint shows and people were being saved based on these shows. It was awesome.

Alan Wojcik: Over the years you have continually worked for NWA Wildside/Anarchy. What makes that promotion so great that it launched your career as well as AJ Styles, Sal Rinauro and Seth Delay among others?

Jimmy Rave: It was a platform to showcase our talents to hundreds of television markets. I didn't make money there but what I did there ended up making me money. Those names you mentioned are just a small handful. Abyss, Evan Bourne (Matt Sydal), Jesse (WWE), Hernandez of LAX and tons of others came through those doors on a dirt road in Cornelia, GA. Some people to this day don't understand it but I’ve learned more there, anywhere I've wrestled.

Alan Wojcik: You were part of the 2005 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup (defeating Fast Eddie Vegas & Petey Williams but lost to Sonjay Dutt.) Have any memories of that event and did you ever meet Jeff before he passed away?

Jimmy Rave: I met Jeff at the 52 NWA Anniversary show in Tampa, FL. He was a nice guy and it's a shame that he is gone. I remember James Gibson beating the piss out of someone, Sonjay Dutt using "Holla Back Girl" as his entrance music and Roderick Strong chopping me in the face. Good times!

Alan Wojcik: As a former NWA World Jr. Heavyweight champion were you ever approached by the promotion that has been featured on DISH Network to work for them and were you ever up for consideration for the short lived MTV promotion Wrestling Society X?

Jimmy Rave: WSX talked to me about tagging with Teddy Hart. It was just talk. NWA hasn't approached me at all. I really enjoy their show and would like to do it. I wouldn't mind taking the belt back from Quack! He is very under used. Crying shame!

Alan Wojcik: You competed in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles hosted by Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. What did you think of the promotion and its fanbase which seems to be worldwide thanks to their DVD distribution deal?

Jimmy Rave: I remember being very disappointed in my match with Sydal. I had just quit ROH the week before and had a ruptured eardrum and had this one shot to show PWG that I could hang there and failed. They will probably never bring me back because of how much I stunk it up. 2007 was a bad time for me. PWG has a great product though. I watch their stuff all the time. They are like the little engine that could, ya know.

Alan Wojcik: In August 2007 you left Ring of Honor for what looked like the last time. What led you to depart from the promotion and now that booker Gabe Sapolsky is gone could you see a return in the future.

Jimmy Rave: I was hurt all of 2007. I broke my jaw wrestling Samoa Joe and wrestled with it broken for 5 weeks so we could get the match with me vs. Nigel in the UK. My face was swollen those whole five weeks. I just felt like I couldn't afford getting hurt anymore after I ruptured my eardrum. Gabe and I weren't communicating very well and I was going out of my mind at the time. I needed to take a step back and look at myself and my place in life. Could I go back.... Ha!

Alan Wojcik: You have been part of several factions over your career. In Ring of Honor you were a member of the Embassy while in Full Impact Pro you were a member of DP Associates. If possible please compare the two groups and their leaders Prince Nana, Mr. Milo Beasley & Dave Prazak.

Jimmy Rave: DP Associates was more of a fun thing to give me a mouthpiece. I wanted to cut promos but I don't think Gabe was feeling that. But if you suck at doing things the only way to get better is actually doing it right? Prazak was great to work with though. I have a lot of respect for him. The Embassy though... man that is real. We were supposed to be a joke but didn't let that happen! We didn't go hang out with fans, we didn't sign autographs and we sure as hell didn't want to hear people cheer for us. Nana and I click man, you can't fake that. Now, oh my goodness 2 years apart and we are back. All hell is going to break loose!

Alan Wojcik: When you signed with TNA Wrestling in September 2007 it was a return to the promotion. Did you notice any immediate differences and what did you think of the Orlando crowd you only saw once or twice before?

Jimmy Rave: Just another day at the office, honestly. I needed the money and I needed the exposure. Plus I thought I could do something huge if I got the chance.

Alan Wojcik: When you were told about the "Rock N’ Rave Infection" gimmick what were your initial thoughts of it and being paired with Christy Hemme and Lance "Rock" Hoyt?

Jimmy Rave: I thought, man I hope this works. It did for awhile but we just didn't catch any steam. So it fizzled out.

Alan Wojcik: You guys were in some great matches with TNA tag teams like LAX (Homicide & Hernandez). Which team did you feel you had the best chemistry with and which one did you think, "Damn why are we booked with these guys"?

Jimmy Rave: LAX and The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) were the best. I'd wrestle them every day if I had to. I wish we got to work Beer Money (“Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm & Robert Roode) because our last match I thought was very good. There actually wasn't a team I dreaded. Some people didn't like working the older guys but I begged to work Team 3D. I felt Lance and I could learn from them so much. Bubba was hard on me but I respected his opinion. He never lied to me or sugar coated a thing.

Alan Wojcik: Did being on Spike TV somewhat weekly earn you more indy bookings or did TNA discourage that?

Jimmy Rave: Nope, I didn't get booked much. I did a lot of house shows until Oct. then it was downhill from there.

Alan Wojcik: The TNA locker room you joined had several high profile names like Sting, Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Scott Steiner, Kurt Angle & Booker T. Did they dress with the rest of the roster or did they live the Main Event Mafia gimmick?

Jimmy Rave: They dressed together BUT Kevin and Kurt fought for me to keep a job from what I hear. Kurt gave me sound advice anytime I asked and Kevin was the most down to earth guy I've met. He would hang out in our locker room and just shoot the shit. I don't give a crap what anyone says about those two... in my book, great guys!

Alan Wojcik: Last spring you were part of the New Japan Best of the Super Juniors series. Explain to the fans the concept of the event and overall memories of competing in Japan.

Jimmy Rave: The most important tournament in junior wrestling. You get 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 for a loss. There are 2 brackets of 6 wrestlers, 12 total. In the end I had 6 points and so did Kanemoto but he beat me and went to the finals. New Japan was an amazing company to work for! Professional and hard working. I loved it there! It was the biggest honor just being invited.

Alan Wojcik: You were one of the X Division stars who competed in the Steel Asylum match at Bound For Glory IV. How did it differ from other cage matches you have participated in would you have preferred to work the X Division as opposed to tagging with Hoyt? (Please note: the interviewer is not knocking Lance Hoyt)

Jimmy Rave: Steel Asylum wasn't that much different just harder to get out of. I loved doing the X Division stuff and I preferred it. Lance and I just weren't ever given direction. He and I could have done some great stuff but it just wasn't in the company's plan. We had a blast tagging with each other and I would do it again, anytime! He's a awesome guy. I prefer setting a pace of a match though.

Alan Wojcik: What were the circumstances of TNA releasing you from the promotions and your thoughts on your exit now that it has aired on TV?

Jimmy Rave: Just time for my contract to come up and they didn't know what to do with me. They didn't beat me on TV so I didn't lose a loser leaves town match. They left the door open to come back at anytime. I sat down and spoke to the office about it and they told me to keep in touch. I have no regrets wrestling there. Do I wish I would have done more, of course but it didn't happen. I didn't complain, I just did my job and went on with it. Life goes on.

Alan Wojcik: People who wish to book you for shows can contact showbiz@aol.com .What
does the future hold for Jimmy Rave, could you see yourself full-time in Japan or possible
interest from WWE?

Jimmy Rave: Japan, WWE, ROH maybe TNA who knows what I'll do. I am going to train harder than ever and get in the best shape I can. Then... the sky's the limit for me!

» Review: Wrestling's Greatest Moment Book
If your my age (34 thank you very much) that means you grew up following wrestling in the 1980's. You remember the initial Starrcade and WrestleMania or the birth of the Hulkamania phenomenon. Author Mike Rickard lived through that decade and the 70's plus 90's as well. After contributing to wrestling sites like World Wrestling Insanity and publications like Pro Wrestling Illustrated, he wrote WRESTLING'S GREATEST MOMENTS (ECW Press, $19.95 US, 222pp.) to share his views with fellow wrestling fans.

Mr. Rickard has culled the best and infamous moments of the last thirty years for this book and he leaves no major story untold. Tthe chapters are broken down into: The Greatest Moments (he lists 10 of the biggest), the Supercards, The Territories (1977-83), Television, The Rock & Wrestling Era (1984-89), The Matches, The Beatdowns, The Turns, We Can't Have Anything Nice Around Here (Celebrations Gone Wrong), The Industry Staggers (1990-94), The Pier Six Brawls, The Monday Night Wars (1995-2001), He's Not Supposed To Be Here and Contemporary (2001-Present.) Let's all take a breather and acknowledge the fact Mr. Rickard took his time working on this entertaining and informative book. Great now let's talk about it, like his top 10 of the biggest moments. While I agree with some of them and I will not give them away here, I will give some I felt should have been in there. Namely how the WWF went into established territories and stole their best stars, which lead to WrestleMania even being thought of. Also how cable television and pirating signals made World Class Championship Wrestling (Fritz Von Erich's Dallas promotion) an international name and how he failed to capitalize on it or the Montreal Screwjob which is mentioned on the book jacket but nowhere in the book.

Some of that is covered in the book which is well researched but not that much since he made Triple H vs. Batista the main event of WrestleMania XX (it was the next year's show). I do appreciate how he went out of his way to show fans that WWF and NWA/WCW weren't the only promotions in the 80's & 90's by putting over angles and wrestlers from the Pacific Northwest promotions, WCCW, ECW, Mid-South (putting over Bill Watts and his stars), Memphis (Jerry Jarrett & Lawler home of Andy Kaufman's great ring career) and Championship Wrestling from Florida (home of the infamous night Santa Claus was nearly killed by fans). Thanks to the final chapter Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling get some mention but its the trip back into the late 70's and the 80's that make this book worth checking out. Back in 1983 wrestling was still in the territory system. World Wrestling Federation was still northeast based as Hulk Hogan had yet to arrive on the scene. Jim Crockett Promotions ran the Mid-Atlantic territory under the National Wrestling Alliance banner. A conversation between Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham led them to approach promoter Jim Crockett Jr. and Thanksgiving night fans witnessed the inaugural event that saw “Nature Boy” Ric Flair take on the legendary Harley Race and other legendary battles listed below. The rest is history at the cliché goes. The documentary feature is great with interviews from Flair, Race, Rhodes, Windham, Road Warrior Animal, David Crockett, Arn Anderson, Roddy Piper, Greg Valentine, Eric Bischoff, Tully Blanchard, Paul Ellering, Jim Cornette (archival footage), Magnum TA, Jim Ross and the Brisco Brothers. Notably absent Ricky Steamboat, Steve Austin, Dustin Rhodes, Bob Caudle, Tony Schiavone and Hulk Hogan, all of whom contributed to the event over the years in some form or fashion. Understandable if the WWE couldn’t get them to talk on camera. Also absent is Vince McMahon who nearly bankrupted the Crockett’s by running his inaugural Survivor Series opposite Starrcade 1987. I found two Easter eggs; on Disc 1 double click on Thanksgiving Tradition to see Dusty Rhodes talk about Starrcade 1983. On Disc 1 double click on Flare for the Gold to see Ric Flair talking about a signature wall of fame at the Greensboro Coliseum. Almost all of the Starrcade events are mentioned except for the 1990 Pat O’Connor Tag Team Tournament or the Sting/Black Scorpion cage match.

The 25 matches featured in the collection are introduced by Hall of Fame announcers Jim Ross & Gene Okerlund, Four Horsemen members Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson plus Road Warrior Animal, Dusty Rhodes and David Crockett. Like the History of the Intercontinental Championship DVD, the wrestling fans voted for the content of this DVD on www.wwe.com . Mr. Okerlund says in the opening they are in order of importance in wrestling history & pure excitement whatever that means. Unless they are really well hidden, there were no Easter eggs with the matches. Here is the list of matches in order from #25 to #1:

WCW World Heavyweight champion “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan vs. Roddy Piper (1996)
Sting vs. Great Muta (1989 Night of the Ironman)
Barry Windham/Brian Pillman vs. NWA World Tag Team champions Ricky Steamboat/Shane Douglas (1992)
Kevin Nash vs. WCW World Heavyweight champion Bill Goldberg (1998)
The 1991 Battlebowl Battle Royal
Dustin Rhodes vs. “Stunning” Steve Austin (1993 2 of 3 falls for US Heavyweight championship)
Road Warriors vs. NWA World Tag Team champions Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard (1987 w/alternate commentary by Todd Grisham/Animal)
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jushin “Thunder” Liger (1996)
Rock N’ Roll Express vs. Midnight Express (Stan Lane/Bobby Eaton) (1987 Scaffold Match)
NWA World Heavyweight champion “Nature Boy” Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger (1988)
Eddie Guerrero vs. Shinjiro Otani (1995 WCW vs. New Japan)
“American Dream” Dusty Rhodes/Sting vs. NWA World Tag Team champions Road Warriors (1988)
Sting vs. Big Van Vader (1992)
NWA World Tag Team champions Jack & Gerry Brisco vs. Ricky Steamboat/Jay Youngblood (1983)
“American Dream” Dusty Rhodes vs. NWA World Heavyweight champion “Nature Boy” Ric Flair (1985)
WCW World Cruiserweight champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko (1997)
Road Warriors vs. Steiner Brothers (1989 Night of the Ironman)
3 Count members Shannon Moore/Shane Helms vs. Jung Dragons members Jimmy Yang/Kaz Hiashi vs. Evan Karagias/Jamie Knoble (2000 Ladder Match)
Sting vs. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair (1989 Night of the Ironman)
US Heavyweight champion Greg “the Hammer” Valentine vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (1983 Dog Collar Match)
Road Warriors vs. Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey/Bobby Eaton) (1986 Scaffold match w/alternate commentary by Todd Grisham/Animal)
Sting vs. WCW World Heavyweight champion “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan (1997 w/special referee Bret “Hitman” Hart))
NWA World Heavyweight champion Harley Race vs. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair (1983 Steel Cage Match)
Magnum TA vs. US Heavyweight champion Tully Blanchard (1985 I Quit Steel Cage Match)
WCW World Heavyweight champion Vader vs. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair (1993)

I probably shouldn’t inject personal opinion in this review but since its mine, I have major problems with the fans that voted Sting vs. Muta as #24 or even listed Hogan/Piper on the list. If you own the Steel Cage DVD or the Ric Flair DVD’s or the even the Ladder Match DVD you have some of these matches already in your collection. I think the WWE should have also added in the judging process does the match stand up today as the best of the best. I doubt Sting/Hogan from 1997 would top Sting’s personal best in my career list even though it had historical significance in WCW. All of Flair’s matches stand up as great and so do the Road Warriors tag matches. It’s great to see so many of these matches once again since some haven’t seen the light of day since an NWA Best of Starrcade VHS release in the previous decades. New Tag Team Champions Crowned
Blunt Force Trauma (Bruce Santee & Jon Davis) defeated The Heartbreak Express to become the first ever Fusion Tag Team Champions this past Saturday in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Prince Iaukea Continues to Play Mind Games with Chris Jones
Chris Jones was the undefeated Luchacore Champion until he collided with Prince Iaukea back in November. Since then, Jones has been on a losing streak and Iaukea seems to be one step ahead of Chris at all times. This past Friday, Iaukea secured a title match for Jones against The Sheik who managed to not only defeat Jones but bloody him up with a spike. To Jones’ credit, he did not give up but instead passed out from the pain causing the match to stop. Saturday night in Ft. Pierce, Chris Jones was set to take on Michael Tobin. Before the match, the masked American Patriot came out and promised he would watch Jones’ back and make sure Iaukea or The Sheik would not interfere in the match. As Jones had Tobin pinned, the American Patriot pulled Jones outside of the ring and beat him down before throwing him back into the ring and right into Michael Tobin’s finisher. The American Patriot unmasked himself to reveal it was actually Prince Iaukea. Later on that night, Iaukea was defending the Luchacore Title against Craig Classic. Iaukea and Classic were battling back and forth when out of nowhere the American Patriot appeared. Iaukea immediately focused on the masked man, assuming it was Chris Jones but Chris Jones came through the crowd to attack Iaukea, causing Classic to be disqualified. Classic was visibly upset that Jones cost him his title shot and he is now back in Japan without the Luchacore Title he wanted to bring with him.

Video from the new champions and Prince Iaukea can be found on www.youtube.com/user/prowrestlingfusion

Steve Madison Earns Match and Picks Stipulation
Steve Madison has been targeted by The Sheik since the debut show. He has been attacked and bloodied. He fell into Barrabas’ trap and was attacked by The Sheik and Meng. He was even set on fire. Every time Madison seems to be gaining some ground on The Sheik, he always ends up getting screwed by The Sheik’s camp. This past weekend in Ft. Pierce, Steve was attacked by Bruiser Bradley who came through the front door and laid out Madison with his suitcase. This set up a match between the two for later in the show with the stipulation that if Madison could survive the match and somehow get the win, he would get to wrestle The Sheik for the Fusion Heavyweight Title (provided he is still the champion) on the next show in any type of match he wanted. Bradley gained an early advantage and almost immediately busted Steve open with his cowbell. Madison appeared to fight back and get the upper hand on Bradley when Rob Richter called for The Sheik to come out. Madison was able to knock The Sheik off of the apron and hit the piledriver on Bradley for the win. Steve Madison then announced that on February 7 in Ft. Pierce he will take on The Sheik in a Steel Cage Match. Did Steve Madison sign his own death warrant by allowing himself to be locked in a cage with the blood thirsty Sheik?

Hardcore Legend Comes Out of Retirement
On January 24 in Seminole, Florida, Abdullah The Butcher will come out of retirement
to challenge the blood thirsty Sheik for the Fusion Heavyweight Title. This match is a Hardcore Dream Match for wrestling fans. Will Abdullah The Butcher become the new Fusion Heavyweight Champion or will The Sheik force him back into retirement forever?

» Alan Wojcik Reviews Ring Roast of the Iron Sheik DVD
The concept of the roast goes back decades to the Hollywood stars like Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Buddy Hackett & Don Rickles where they would gather for a dinner and throw comedic insults at their honoree. Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Club does one for their Man of the Year usually dressing them in drag (once given to “Macho Man” Randy Savage.) Well the people who run Kayfabe Commentaries decided to add the roast to professional wrestling. They chose former WWF World Heavyweight & Tag Team champion The Iron Sheik (AKA Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri) as their initial honoree on October 10, 2008. With so much controversy surrounding what happened that evening (and I will get to that in a moment) www.kayfabecommentaries.com released it as Ring Roast I. The event was emceed by wrestling journalist legend Bill Apter. Here is the list of people that took the stage to roast the Sheik: wrestlers King Kong Bundy, King Kaluha, Tom Brandi, Don Muraco, Nikolai Volkoff, Brian Blair, Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissy, Bob Backlund plus comics Don Jamieson, Jimmy Graham, Mike Maher (also a wrestling manager,) Mike Morse and lastly the Sheik’s advisor Eric Simms.

I will not roast the Iron Sheik, believe me everyone on this DVD does a good job of it. I have never been a fan of the Sheik as a wrestler and as a person. My dislike for him dates back to a 1987 arrest on the side of the Garden State Parkway when he broke kayfabe in a huge way, being busted for drugs with his good guy counterpart “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. As someone who has covered wrestling for years I know the kayfabe word doesn’t mean much anymore; but in the era the Sheik worked in, kayfabe was gospel. Since I am not an Iron Sheik follower I have no idea why the Sheik dislikes former Killer Bee & Hillsborough County (FL) Commissioner Blair. Someone told me it stems from the Sheik’s time on the Howard Stern show which is only on satellite radio. Seems he is a bitter person and is taking it out on his former WWF colleagues. I am sure the loss of a child in a violent way scars you forever. Now that I have talked about the Sheik, let’s address the star jerk on this DVD, comedian Jimmy Graham. During his roasting time he takes pot shots at the late Adrian Adonis and Owen Hart. The latter got him a near beatdown from the very intoxicated Scott Hall who charges from the audience. While Hall was in the wrong for his actions I don’t think making fun of a wrestler who fell to his death is good comedy. While I understand it’s a roast there has to be a decency line in the proverbial sand you don’t cross. Graham does it though thankfully producer Sean Oliver deletes it from the main feature.

The second disc holds some pre-roast footage, the entire Scott Hall saga and the aftermath of the Blair-Sheik confrontation. Both incidents show Sean Oliver has a career waiting in contract negotaions and mediation. The DVD is a good item for someone who got a gift card and can’t think of something to buy. Log onto www.kayfabecommentaries.com for this and other DVD’s. plus you can check out an on-demand item with former WWE office member Rene Goulet.

» Alan Wojcik Reviews OMEGA: Uncommon Passion DVD
Are you a fan of WWE superstars Matt & Jeff Hardy? That means you know they have been friends with Gregory “Hurricane” Helms, Mike Howe, Shannon Moore, Joey Matthews (formerly Mercury), Christian York, Cham Pain (Marty Gardner) & Jason Ahrndt for years. What’s that, did you ask who the heck are Mike Howe, Christian York, Cham Pain and Jason Ahrndt? That means you probably didn’t know Matt Hardy created and booked a Carolina’s based promotion called OMEGA. Surprised to read that fact? Then you need to get a copy of the very entertaining OMEGA: Uncommon Passion released by Highspots.com and Big Vision Home Entertainment hosted by OMEGA ring announcer Ted Hobgood.

Matt and Jeff Hardy have been wrestling since their teens like the other men listed above. In 1997 Matt & Jeff got tired of running their own trampoline based wrestling shows and the East Coast Wrestling Federation was born followed by the New Frontier Wrestling Alliance. Matt hooked up with promoter Thomas Simpson eventually creating OMEGA or Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts which was a mix of American, Mexican and Japan. The Hardy’s wrestled as themselves but also characters like High Voltage & Will O’ the Wisp. They grabbed up the best workers along with their friends and began running shows at fairs and local venues. If you attended an event you saw a very young “King of Old School” Steve Corino and the men listed above who would go onto work for WWE, WCW and ECW. Each wrestler listed has a chance to tell their story of OMEGA and where it ended up taking them. The story goes from the birth to the death and the reunion show the fans of OMEGA asked for.

If you have seen the WWE’s Twist of Fate DVD on the Hardy’s career or the BVDVD Ultimate Insiders on the Hardy’s some of this is repeat stuff. But this DVD goes in depth on certain stories you only have read about online. Like the issues between Matt & Ahrndt who became Joey Abs of the Mean Street Posse, how Jeff and Shannon were wrestling before they were old enough to drive themselves to events, how the Hardy’s began working for the WWE plus the successes and failures met on the way to the top. Along with some bonus stories you get a second disc filled with the following matches: Otto Schwanz & Cham Pain vs. Venom & Surge (Ahrndt & Matt Hardy), two matches of the Hardy Boys vs. Serial Thrillaz (Helms & Howe), Surge vs. Will O’ the Wisp and Shane Helms/Shannon Moore (WCW’s Three Count) vs. Christian York/Joey Matthews. Also on the second disc are promos from Cham Pain, the Serial Thrillaz and Will O’ the Wisp.

You can buy this disc in stores or online through www.bvdvd.com or www.highspots.com
» The Riot Act: News on Strong/Sideshow & Amy Vitale
Half of the Pro Wrestling Riot Title Tournament and Pro Wrestling Riot Tag Team Tournament are completed and the rest of the first round will be finished on Friday, December 12th at The New Lakes in Regency Park Civic Center in Port Richey. Here is the latest Riot Act from the offices of Pro Wrestling Riot:

Sideshow and Sedrick Strong to Meet in the Ring

Since the War Games Match in Brooksville, the tension between Sideshow and Sedrick Strong has grown despite the fact that they won the match against 911 Incorporated based on Sideshow’s reaction to Sedrick’s celebration with Sideshow’s sister Danielle. During the first half of the Road to Gold, Sideshow confronted Sedrick and they appeared to resolve their problems but not everything was perfect between them. Both men were in first round matches during Part One of Road to Gold. While Sideshow defeated Damballah, Sedrick was defeated by Shawn Osborne.

Sedrick thought that Sideshow hit him with the chair that cost him the match and they had to be separated by Bruce Santee and C.J. O’Doyle because Sedrick would not listen to Sideshow telling him that he did not hit Sedrick. Sedrick was shown the footage of the match and he saw that Sideshow was telling him the truth that he did not hit Sedrick with the chair.

Now that Sedrick has all of the facts about the end of his match against Shawn Osborne, they will meet in the ring next Saturday night to air out their dirty laundry since the War Games match.

The House of Vitale Gets Spiritual

Since adding some new members to the House of Vitale to join the Heartbreak Express, Amy Vitale has had a few problems to deal with. Amy has added Lou the Fixer, Raymond ‘Killing Machine’ Snow, and Damballah to the group, but with their start, they have not lived up to the high standards that are expected if you are associated with the Princess of Pro Wrestling Riot.

Damballah lost his first round match in the Pro Wrestling Riot Title Tournament to Sideshow by disqualification. After the match, while Damballah thought he was doing the right thing to impress Amy, but he was angering her. Amy was seen leaving the ring on the telephone, telling that person that she could not take it any more.

Amy had some problems with Lou the Fixer and Raymond Snow, and she felt that she could not control the two men by herself, so she called in a favor and brought in an old friend who was her spiritual advisor to take care of the more difficult members of the group. Amy introduced Vic Slowhand to the Pro Wrestling Riot fans and he tried to provide Lou the Fixer and Raymond Snow with the proper guidance to get past the British Lions. However, they fell short as Lou and Snow continued to have problems that have existed since Snow was locked in a truck during their Falls Count Anywhere Match while Lou was sent through a table. Then they lost a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match when Lou got pinned during the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup in Brooksville. Will Vic be able to help Amy control the House of Vitale?

The First Round Concludes on December 12th

The first round of both the Pro Wrestling Riot Title Tournament and Pro Wrestling Riot Tag Team Tournament conclude on Friday, December 12th with four singles matches and two tag team matches.

In the Pro Wrestling Riot Title Tournament, two of the top wrestlers from Florida meet as Roderick Strong takes on Bruce Santee with the winner advancing to face Shawn Osborne in the second round. The other match on that side of the brackets in the first round is Francisco Ciatso versus Nooie Lee with Chris Jones awaiting the winner in the second round.

On the other half of the bracket, Scott Davis battles Jerrelle Clark to see who will meet Jaison Moore in the second round. The final first round match will see C.J. O’Doyle face Chasyn Rance to determine who will face Sideshow in round two.

In the first round of the Tag Team Tournament, the Heartbreak Express face The Loggers to see who will meet Bumz R Us in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, the British Lions await the winner of the match between the Dark City Fight Club and The Lifeguards.

ROAD TO GOLD ROLLS ON

Sixteen single competitors & eight tag teams started on the Road to Gold to vie for the honor of being Pro Wrestling RIOT’s first champions – Now only twelve single & six tag teams remain. We discussed the last four first round single matches in the last RIOT Act, now we discuss in detail the last two first round matches in the PWR Tag Team tournament:

The Lifeguards of Daron Smythe & Wade Koverly vs. The Dark City Fight Club of Kory Chavis & Jon Davis – Two of the Southeast’s top tag teams collide in this first round tournament match for the PWR Tag Team Championship. The Dark City Fight Club of Chavis & Davis, lead by “The Hardcore Giant” Ron Niemi, have “bling bling” on their mind. The DCFC have been virtually unstoppable in tag team competition as part of Niemi’s 911, Inc. The Lifeguards of Koverly & Smythe have been one of the top teams in RIOT since day one. In fact, The Lifeguards wrestled in the very first match on the first ever Pro Wrestling RIOT event “Starting a RIOT”. This matchup promises to be tag team wrestling at its finest.

The Heartbreak Express of Sean & Phil Davis vs. The Loggers of Lumberjack Manley & The Mighty Dagon – Two-time former FIP Tag Team Champions, The Heartbreak Express, along with their “princess” Amy Vitale, go head-to-head with one of the most unorthodox tag teams in the Southeast, the Loggers! The Heartbreak Express have been nothing but trouble since debuting in Pro Wrestling RIOT and have changed the tag team landscape everywhere they have competed. The Loggers debuted in the Tag Team Gauntlet match at the “2008 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup”. These two tough competitors from Up North would like nothing more than to chop the competition down to size and they start with the House of Vitale.

AN OPEN LETTER FROM 911, INC.’S RON NIEMI

The Road to the Gold leads to 911 Incorporated! I am here to guarantee without any doubt whatsoever when all is said and done and when the dust clears everybody will hear myself, the “Hardcore Giant” Ron Niemi say, I TOLD YOU SO!

From the very beginning 911 Incorporated has guaranteed we would dominate Pro Wrestling Riot and we have done everything we set out to do. Nobody is stupid enough to doubt the fact that when you are talking about heavyweight title contenders Shawn Osborne and Francisco Ciatso are as good as it gets. It is not a question on if 911 Inc. will take home the heavyweight championship it is just a matter of who will take home the championship. Shawn Osborne already steam rolled Sedrick Strong as I expected he would and next Francisco will make quick work of Nooie Lee who I have to admit is a young star to keep your eye on but truth is Frankie has eaten meatballs bigger than Nooie. But seriously, he has.

When it comes to the tag team titles in Pro Wrestling Riot is there anybody who would put their money against the likes of the Dark City Fight Club!? Honestly who in their right mind would consider think they stand a chance in this tournament with Jon Davis and Kory Chavis representing 911 Incorporated? It’s almost unfair and if I was the type of guy who felt guilty about hurting people I would probably feel terrible about what is going to happen to The Lifeguards on December 12th in Port Richey. Are we supposed to apologize in advance? Are we supposed to feel sympathy and take it easy on this up and coming tag team? Honestly if these boys had any sense they would forfeit the match and live to fight another day but somehow I have a feeling that isn’t going to happen. Understand I cannot be held responsible for what happens to these young men.

On December 12th I along with my trusted friend Rod Steel will be returning to Pro Wrestling Riot and The Road to the Gold is going to be the start of the next stage of 911 Incorporated. I may have been sidetracked for a couple of months after the brutal beating I took at the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup at the hands of the Sideshow, Bruce Santee, Sedrick Strong and those common criminals The Black Market. As everybody knows I am not a wrestler and was tricked into being a part of this match and while I fought valiantly alongside my family of 911 Incorporated and nearly emerged as the victor. After working the match in my own unique “Michigan Strong Style” mixed with a hybrid version of Catch as Catch Can and Lucha Libre I was caught out of nowhere with a vicious piledriver by Sideshow which nearly broke my incredibly thick neck. I suffered serious injuries to my L-5 and C-3 but after 2 months of nearly round the clock rehab I am back and better than ever.

Rest assured 911 Incorporated and the Hardcore Giant Ron Niemi are back and we are better than ever!

» Review of Last Call With Raven & Sandman
Raven & Sandman walk into a bar...no that's not the beginning of a joke. Big Vision Entertainment brought these two extreme wrestling stars together in a bar setting for the next chapter in the Ultimate Insiders series. Like previous editions it is hosted by Dr. Keith Lipinski and the shoot is long and interesting. Actually interesting doesn't cover it. This DVD was filmed the night before the XPW Cold Day In Hell reunion show so the alcohol flowed as Lipinski tries (operative word being tries) to conduct a shoot with these two men who have worked for WWE, WCW, ECW and TNA. That was until the event is crashed ten minutes in by fellow hardcore stars Terry Funk, New Jack & Mustafa. What ensues next is not to be missed if you're fans of these five men. I really tried to be impartial watching this DVD but....

Let me say I am not a fan of New Jack, Sandman or Mustafa and this DVD didn't make me feel any different about them. I have always found Raven to be a smart man trapped around dumb people. This DVD is a perfect example, he has great stories to tell mixed in with some comedy. But the DVD gets bogged down by New Jack who cannot stop apologizing to Terry Funk for hijacking a retirement speech from years gone by. The worst part is Funk doesn't stick around long enough to contribute anything of substance. Anytime it seems Lipinski is going to get control or ask a question, New Jack or Sandman go on a rant about their drug and alcohol days in ECW. To be honest this interview plays like an episode of Seinfeld, the show about nothing as the DVD board game advertizes. The disc is saved by some XPW matches with Funk vs. Shane Douglas, Supreme vs. Sandman, Supreme vs. Raven, Kaos vs. New Jack plus the entire retirement speech New Jack won't stop apologizing for.

Sixteen single competitors & eight tag teams started on the Road to Gold to vie for the honor of being Pro Wrestling RIOT’s first champions – Now only twelve single & six tag teams remain. We’ll be discussing in detail the last two first round matches in the PWR Tag Team tournament in the next RIOT Act. The final four first round single matches will take place on Friday, December 12, 2008 and are as follows:

“The Marquee” Bruce Santee vs. “The Messiah of the Backbreaker” Roderick Strong – Two of the biggest heavy hitters in the Southeast collide in this first round match up. Santee, who main evented Pro Wrestling RIOT’s inaugural event Starting a Riot, has been waging a war against Ron Niemi’s 911, Inc. for the past year. That war concluded with a violent steel cage Wargames match at the 2008 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup, which Santee’s team was victorious. Santee now has his eye on the prize – the PWR Championship, but he must first get past what is arguably the top wrestler in the Southeast, Roderick Strong. Strong, who is no stranger to RIOT competition, is a two-time former FIP World Heavyweight Champion. Strong, who was born & raised in Florida, looks to add more gold to his already impressive resume. The winner of this first round match up will face 911, Inc’s “Bad Seed” Shawn Osborne in the second round of the tournament.

Francisco Ciatso vs. Nooie Lee –Francisco Ciatso, a member of Ron Niemi’s 911, Inc. has been on a tear in Pro Wrestling RIOT. Ciatso, who has been part of WWE’s Deep South developmental system, as well seen on WWE & TNA programming, is a proven resourceful competitor who wins by all means necessary. Nooie Lee, is a brash young up-in-comer in Pro Wrestling RIOT. Lee, who recently competed in his second Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup, has upset on his mind. The winner of this first round match up will face FIP Florida Heritage Champion Chris Jones in the second round of the tournament.

“Not Cocky” Chasyn Rance vs. CJ O’Doyle – Rance, who is one of the top cruiserweights in the Southeast, is transitioning from tag team specialist in Pro Wrestling RIOT, to a singles competitor. O’Doyle, who recently participated in the 2008 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup, is a tough fighter from Hell’s Kitchen who has been working his way up the RIOT roster. The winner of this first round match up will face the hugely popular Sideshow in the second round of the tournament.

“Mr. 630” Jerrelle Clark vs. “Classic” Scott Davis – Clark, who is a mainstay on the Southeast wrestling scene, looks to even the score against Scott Davis. Clark, one of the top cruiserweights nationally, has been on somewhat of a comeback and looks to conclude his comeback with winning the PWR Championship. Davis, who has amassed an impressive string of victories, including one over Clark, looks to ride a wave of momentum straight to the PWR Championship. The winner of this first round match up will face the PWR favorite Jaison Moore in the second round of the tournament.

TOURNAMENT FINALS SET FOR EARLY 2009

Pro Wrestling RIOT officials have held off on scheduling the finals of the Road to Gold tournaments until all the second round matches have been set. The reason for this is that certain first round competitors have existing commitments that have to be taken into consideration. The date & location of the tournament finals will announced shortly after the first round matches conclude.

(6) The British Lions (Tommy Taylor & Chris Gray) defeated Lou the Fixer and Raymond "Killing Machine" Snow (w/Vic Slowhand).

(7) 911 Inc’s Shawn Osborne (w/Rod Steel) defeated Sedrick Strong.

After taking October off to enjoy the Tampa Bay Rays improbable championship run, Pro Wrestling Riot returned to action on Saturday November 8, 2008 for its own championship run. The "Road to the Gold" began tonight with opening round matches in tournaments to crown heavyweight and tag team champions. As with all Riot events, it was held in The New Lakes in Regency Park Civic Center 8330 Civic Drive in Port Richey, FL.

(1) Myles Long (w/"the Marquee" Bruce Santee) defeated Ronnie Minge & Brett Thunder.

While Minge ran down his resume for the fans in the front row, Long & Thunder traded waistlock go behinds. Thunder & Long decided to try and take Minge out of the match but that ended when Minge hit Long with a Hot Shot. Long slid to the floor as Minge locked up with Thunder but got hit with several chest chops. Long came back in with a sunset flip which brought both men over into a suplex. With Minge out on his feet, Thunder went for a back suplex but Long countered out and got a pin with a bridge.

After the opening match, "the Marquee" Bruce Santee began talking about the WarGames match from night two of the 2008 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup. He said that despite the post match disagreement between Sideshow & Sedrick Strong cooler heads momentarily prevailed. With that said he brought out Strong followed by Sideshow and his friend CJ O’Doyle. Santee said as they celebrated the downfall of 911 Inc., Strong & Sideshow argued over Sideshow’s sister Danielle who was apparently felt up by Strong. Strong said Sideshow overreacted to something innocent. Sideshow said he has never trusted Strong but this one time he was willing to apologize. Strong seemed to also apologize for making online comments about Sideshow’s mother. After finally shaking hands everyone left the ring so the tournament could begin.

(2) Chris Jones defeated Austin Amadeus.

Amadeus tried to be the aggressor with a waistlock takedown but Jones went for a counter into a front facelock. Amadeus countered out into a wristlock only to be put in a side headlock. Jones went back to the neck with the front facelock but Amadeus countered out into a wristlock bending Jones over. But Jones escaped and countered out of an F5 into a pin attempt. Jones tried to fool Amadeus on a slingshot from the ring apron but it backfired as Amadeus sent him into the ring barricades. After some body shots, Amadeus sent Jones back to the ring for a suplex for two. Amadeus went for the submission with a neck vise but Jones fought to his feet but his wheel barrel move was countered into a backbreaker for two. Amadeus went back to the neck stretch hold but Jones refused to submit. Jones fought back with forearms and a tornado DDT but he couldn’t get the pin as he fell in exhaustion. Jones quickly got a second wind hitting Amadeus with a huricurana but Amadeus got to his feet and sent Jones to the floor. Jones recovered and hit Amadeus with a slingshot legdrop back in the ring for two. Jones looked like he was ready to end it, so he laid in the forearm shots but Amadeus hit a power bomb for two. Jones fought out of the second attempt but ran into a forearm shot. He was dazed as Amadeus grabbed him but not dazed enough that he fought off Amadeus to win with a victory roll.

(3) Bumz’ R Us (Milo Beasley & Ray Beez w/Milo Bearsly) defeated the Dynamic Duo (Fantastic Dantastic & K-Bleezy).

Yes the Bumz’ brought a teddy bear in a wheel chair to the ring with them. Beasley said he wouldn’t lock up with Dantastic until his breath was checked. The referee approved of the breath and we were under way with some chain wrestling that ended with a rolling inside cradle that went around the ring several times. Both men took a moment to clear the cobwebs with a test of strength that ended when Beasley tagged in Beez who missed a blind tag and Bleezy got a rolling cradle for two. Beez got to his feet with a side headlock and made a blind tag but it backfired as Beasley crashed into Beez. This allowed the Duo to hit a double team legdrop for two. Fantastic went up but Beasley caught him and began the airplane spin that left Dantastic lying in the ring and Beasley hitting the ring after missing a top rope elbow drop. Both men made the tag to their partners but got hit with battering ram headlocks and back suplexes which left all four men dazed. Bleezy went for a spear but only met the floor and Beasley followed with a senton. Dantastic stopped Beasley from his next move and sent him to the floor. Beez broke them up with a rolling tope from the top. All three were then hit by Dantastic with his superhero dive. All four men got back in the ring trying to get the pin but the Duo’s double team move fell short when a corner whip was reversed and crotches met the corner buckles. The Bumz’ hit a double team rolling fireman’s carry into the prone Duo who were laid out in the corner. All the Bumz’ needed to do was pull the Duo out to get the pin. After the match all four men and the bear shook hands.

(4) Sideshow defeated Dimballah of House of Vitale (w/Amy Vitale) via DQ.

Vitale seemed to have extreme fear in her eyes as she brought Dimballah to the ring for his match. To the shock of no one this match began before the referee could give the ring instructions to the combatants. Dimballah knocked Sideshow to the floor and then into the ring post. Sideshow fought back raking Dimballah’s face and eyes. But Dimballah had an equalizer, namely a fork which he used to open up Sideshow’s forehead. Finally Dimballah tossed Sideshow into the ring and the referee started the bout. Vitale paced ringside as Dimballah hit Sideshow with shots to the throat. Dimballah briefly stopped the attack to get a chair and stalk Vitale with a look of lust on his face. The distraction worked in Sideshow’s favor as he used the chair to springboard onto Dimballah. Back in the ring Sideshow hit Dimballah with a head butt that looked below the belt but the referee allowed the match to continue as Sideshow laid in the right hand punches. With Dimballah still drooling over Vitale, Sideshow went for the brass knuckles which seemed to only daze Dimballah. The referee tried to get in between the duo but got tossed to the mat so Dimballah could lock in the Asiatic Spike submission hold. Sideshow got to the ropes but Dimballah refused to break the hold and the referee called for the bell and the DQ. When Dimballah continued to keep the hold locked in Sedrick Strong, Bruce Santee & CJ O’Doyle hit the ring. Dimballah saw them coming and dipped out as Vitale talked on her cell phone saying to someone, "We need to do the deal right now! I can’t control these freaks anymore."

(5) Jaison Moore defeated Craig Classic.

This was a collision of 2008 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup competitors and they didn’t disappoint. The bout began with some chain wrestling trying to get control. Despite several offensive moves both men stood tall in the middle of the ring. That was until Moore hit Classic with several kicks to the body sending Classic to the floor. But Moore’s baseball slide missed the mark and it allowed Classic to get in some shots. But Moore recovered and hiptossed Classic to the floor before returning to the ring. Moore kept on the offense until he ran into Classic’s boot and a suplex for two. Classic took Moore to the mat with a chinlock submission. Classic let the hold go and delivered a running forearm to Moore’s jaw for two. Classic went for the punches in the corner but Moore fought his way out hitting a Samoan Drop for two. Moore hit a clothesline but Classic fought back with a shot of his own, setting up a slam followed by a trip up but Moore quickly got to his feet and hitting Classic with a modified jawbreaker and superkick. The kick set up the rolling bomb in the corner. Moore went for the J Driver but Classic countered into a tiger bomb for two. Classic went to argue with the referee and it allowed Moore to recover and hit the J Driver getting the win. After the match Moore extended his hand to Classic who took it and then grabbed Moore up into a sitout power bomb which brought the rain of boos from the fans.

Before the next match Amy Vitale took the ring mic from Jonathon Gold. "The Princess of Pro Wrestling" said she signed a deal that got her lots of money that also allowed her the ability to give complete focus on Club Vitale & the Heartbreak Express. She said it was time to bring out a close friend and spiritual advisor Vic Slowhand. After blinding the fans with his wardrobe, Slowhand rhymed about something before saying he was taking over control of the House of Vitale. Ms. Vitale went to the locker room to count the money as Raymond Snow & Lou the Fixer came out to the ring.

(6) The British Lions (Tommy Taylor & Chris Gray) defeated Lou the Fixer and Raymond "Killing Machine" Snow (w/Vic Slowhand).

The emergence of Slowhand didn’t seem to faze the Lions one bit. However the size difference showed as Taylor tried to elude the Fixer but got sent to a corner. Taylor fought back with forearm shots but was powered to the corner where Snow tagged in with several bodyshots following. The Fixer & Snow kept Taylor isolated from Gray for several moments and the fans cheered on the Lions. Taylor kept trying to get to Gray but kept getting tossed to his opponents’ corner. Taylor finally got in enough punches to Snow’s head to get the momentum his way and he tagged in Gray but he too was run over by Snow. The Fixer came back in for some punishment as Gray tried to clear the cobwebs. A forearm shot to the Fixer’s head allowed Taylor a tag back in the match and a mat based sleeper hold. But the Fixer refused to quit. So Taylor released the hold and tagged Gray back in and he tried to take the Fixer down, but he was locked into a surfboard like hold. Gray escaped only to be caught in a powerslam for two. Snow came back in hitting an elbow. The duo began to maneuver the referee around the ring allowing them to double team and make illegal tags as Taylor protested from his side of the ring. Even Slowhand got in some cheap shots as the referee sent Taylor to his corner. Despite the powerful attack, the Fixer & Snow couldn’t put Gray away. Gray countered a Snow sidewalk slam into a head scissor and it allowed Gray the time to tag in the very well rested Taylor who went after both of his opponents with stiff bodyshots. The Lions double teamed the Fixer and avoided the Snow corner splash which actually leveled the Fixer. The Lions dumped Snow to the floor and hit the Fixer with a double team bodyblock to get the hard fought win. After the match Snow and the Fixer had a heated exchange but the words of Slowhand seemed to mellow the two beasts long enough to get a handshake.

(7) 911 Inc’s Shawn Osborne (w/Rod Steel) defeated Sedrick Strong.

That’s right the "Miami Pound Machine" was in Pro Wrestling Riot advising "the Bad Seed" as Ron Niemi was working elsewhere on 911 Inc. business. Osborne spent the opening minutes of the match on his butt as Strong kept sending him there. Osborne tried to fight back but got taken down with a side headlock. Strong kept the momentum going until it went against him as Osborne tossed him over the top rope crashing into the ring barricade. The referee told Steel to back off as Osborne went out after Strong driving him into the floor with a bodyslam. Osborne went into the ring for the countout win but Strong got to the ring do that made Osborne come out and toss Strong in the ring for a two count pin attempt. Osborne went after the injured back with a knee into Strong’s back as both arms were pulled to the farthest limits before they would pop out of place. Strong somehow got to his feet only to be hit with a backdrop. Osborne occupied the referee so Steel could get in some cheap shots as Strong lay near the ring apron. Strong hit Osborne with several punches but it took one backbreaker to get Osborne a two count. Osborne went back to the stretch hold hoping this time it would get the tap out. But Strong got to his feet and he backed Osborne into a corner where he drove Osborne’s body into the buckles. Osborne ran into Strong’s boots and it allowed Strong the chance to hit a inverted blockbuster like hold. Strong got to his feet and he tagged Osborne with several shots but he also tagged the referee with one that sent him crashing to the mat. Osborne went for a suplex but Strong countered into a pin that the fans counted down. Strong pinned Osborne a second time as the referee was motionless. Strong hit a kick to the head but Steel hit him with a folding chair to the back. Sideshow came out and chased off Steel, grabbing the folding chair. Strong got some distance from Osborne and he saw Sideshow with the chair. As the two argued it allowed Osborne time to recover and hit the It Factor to win the match.

After the match Sideshow confronted Strong as Bruce Santee came out to try and squash the tension. It didn’t do much as the two men exchanged punches as CJ O’Doyle joined Santee at ringside. Santee forced Strong into a corner as O’Doyle got Sideshow on the floor and heading to the locker room. Strong mentioned Sideshow’s sister and that only pissed Sideshow off and the rest of the locker room had to come out and break them up. They did little to make that happen as Sideshow slid past all of them and attacked Strong from behind.

» Review of My Side of the Story: Magnum/Koloff
If you watched NWA/WCW Saturday Night back in the mid-1980’s or read the Pro Wrestling Illustrated type magazines you knew of the feud between the “Russian Nightmare” Nikita Koloff and the “vastly popular” Magnum TA. It was the personification of good vs. evil and the Cold War which was still going strong. It was a battle that had the Russian holding the US Heavyweight title and the American wanting it back for his country. The feud could have gone for years but fate stepped in when Magnum AKA Terry Wayne Allen was nearly killed in a car crash that ended his career. Shortly after Koloff was turned face joining then NWA booker “the American Dream” Dusty Rhodes in the “Super Powers” tag team which won the 1987 Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup with Magnum in their corner.

Both men have done shoot interviews but never together. Until now thanks to www.kayfabecommentaries.com who brought the two together for their My Side of the Story DVD series. The concept is simple: Allen and Koloff AKA Scott Simpson are interviewed separately with the same questions and Sean Oliver’s crew edits them in sequence. After the questions are done, Oliver brings the two men into the room to talk about the past. This is the second in the series, the first being former WWE Intercontinental champions Greg Valentine and Tito Santana. Like that DVD this one comes with a booklet outlining the feud and significant moments during it as well as bios on both men.

I gave the Valentine/Santana disc a good review. But I prefer this one because both men seem to have genuinely enjoyed working the storyline and each others company, meaning it wasn’t just another angle to them. This feud made Simpson a national name while it elevated Allen to the main event level on the NWA roster. I was shocked at the honesty Simpson gives about his level of inexperience in the business when he was paired up with the veteran Allen. It might take you a few minutes to get used to Simpson talking without the Nikita Koloff Russian accent (I know I did.) Both give honest answers and were a pleasure to listen to. Like any non-WWE produced DVD the one flaw of this DVD is the lack of matches (WWE owns the NWA/WCW tape library, commie bastards.) I would have loved to have seen all of the best of seven series for the US title on this presentation but that’s not to be.

You can buy this DVD from www.kayfabecommentaries.com where you can purchase items from their excellent Guest Booker series including the new Jerry Jarrett DVD.
